Mid Glamorgan Pub of the Year 2024

Our Pub of the Year award this year goes to the Griffin Inn, Hendreforgan. This warm and characterful pub, known locally as the Bog, has been in the same family for more than sixty years. Excellent beer quality, immaculate decor, gleaming brassware and friendly welcome are just some of the qualities leading to the Griffin being voted 'Overall Winner'.









Highly commended awards go to the Llanover Arms in Pontypridd and the National Tap in Aberdare. Well done to all.













Mid Glamorgan Club of the Year 2024

Highly Commended awards go to the Gelliwastad Club & Institute (Pontypridd), and the Gilfach Workmens Club, (Gilfach Fargoed). Both of these are members clubs, and operate entry rules.






Mid Glamorgan Pub of the Year 2023

Our Pub of the Year award this year goes to the Bunch of Grapes, Pontypridd. We had the pleasure of presenting Gareth and Nick with the winner's certificate on the evening of Thursday 11th May when those present also had a chance to try some beers from the new Cwrw Otley brewery, and visit the brewery with brewer Nick Otley.

Pub of the Year Highly Commended awards were also presented, recognising high standards at the Griffin (Hendreforgan), Fox & Hounds (Llanharry), National Tap (Aberdare) and the White Cross (Groeswen).

The Cross Inn in Llantrisant is the Mid Glamorgan Pub of the Year 2022.

Congratulations to publicans Cheryl and Martyn Williams who deserve much credit for their hard work and commitment.



In a closely run competition, the Bunch of Grapes, Pontypridd and the White Cross, Groeswen are joint runners up


and a special 'Rising Star' award goes to the Cokeworks Bar in Beddau.

Hospitality Heroes Awards

Mid Glamorgan CAMRA has presented a number of Hospitality Heroes awards, recognising local pubs and brewery businesses that excelled during the Coronavirus pandemic. Faced with severe restrictions, the challenges imposed by exceptional circumstances were met and overcome. Each found new ways of trading, by adapting to the needs of discerning customers seeking superior food and drink. Seven awards have been made to date, with potential for more as news reaches us.

The Pencelli Hotel in Treorchy is a double award winner this year, winning both the Pub of the Year and the Cider & Perry Pub of the Year competitions.

Pontypridd Golf Club is the winner of our Club of the Year competition and the Gelliwastad Club, also in Pontypridd, is awarded 'Highly Commended'.
